This course surveys major critical, interpretative, and theological issues of Gospel of John. The goal will be to learn how some of its salient features fit in context of the early church and the Johannine tradition. Topics include the theories about the Johannine community; the influence of the Prologue (1:1-18) on Christological debates; significance of the miraculous signs (2:11); and its relationship to the Synoptic Gospels.
